P.K. Yonge Girls Soccer Pounds Fort White

The P.K. Yonge girls’ soccer team, coming into the game winning four of their last five, looked to continue that momentum Tuesday afternoon against a Fort White team the Blue Wave have been all over the past couple of years. It started off slow, but the girls managed to step on the gas and ease their way to a 7-1 victory.
The Blue Wave (5-2) had multiple chances in the early going, but it was Ft. White (4-4-2) who struck first. Communication early on for the girls was iffy, but it got better later on in the game.
“It’s one of the elements that I felt like was going to be a priority for today’s game,” Coach Jon Doles said postgame. “They're starting to use their minds more and what they know about the game. You are going to see some results because of that.”
When the girls realized that the Indians had a lead on them, it was time to buckle down and not let go.
Junior forward Lee Ducharme and sophomore forward Hailey Brown led the way by scoring all seven goals. Lee scored five goals and assisted Hailey on one of her two goals. Hailey assisted Lee on two goals.
It was easy to say that these girls used that first goal against them as a motivator, to get more physical in winning the ball, and importantly, finding ways to get the ball into the back of the net.
This is a young team, and with that comes some inexperience. But as the season progresses, this team will find its ways and continue to win and hopefully get those victories against the top schools in the area.
They square off against district-rival Santa Fe High School on Thursday, December 1st at 5 p.m. Their following game is tomorrow, December 2nd, at Williston High School at 6 p.m.
Key Performer: Lee Ducharme
